Impulse: Electronic Tonalities in Cinema

"Impulse: Electronic Tonalities in Cinema" is a genealogical study of the use of electronic sound in cinema, focusing on experimental analogue electronic instruments. In this videographic essay I take a look at how electronic sound has been used in films as diverse as Forbidden Planet, Hitchcock's Spellboundand Tarkovsky's Solaris to evoke the 'crossing over' of hidden impulses, repressed memories, or psychological phantoms from the immaterial to the material world.
